9th European Conference on Logics in Artificial Intelligence (JELIA-04)
Description |
Logics have, for many years, laid claim to providing a formal basis for the study and development of applications and systems in Artificial Intelligence. With the depth and maturity of formalisms, methodologies and logic-based systems today, this claim is stronger than ever. The European Conference on Logics in Artificial Intelligence (or Journ?es Europ?ennes sur la Logique en Intelligence Artificielle - JELIA) began back in 1988. The aim of the 9th European Conference on Logics in Artificial Intelligence, JELIA'04, is to bring together active researchers interested in all aspects concerning the use of logics in artificial intelligence to discuss current research, results, problems and applications of both a theoretical and practical nature. |

Workshop on Grounding Sensory Information and Symbolic Knowledge (Grounding Sensor and Symbolic Information)
Description |
Grounding sensory and symbolic information in agents involves linking the internal representation of the world to real world objects. Grounding is an issue in all systems from insects to apes and beyond! Grounding is particularly challenging when designing complex artificial systems like software agents and mobile robots interacting with dynamic environments. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers who are interested in addressing fundamental research challenges related to the development of theoretically sound models and methods that can be used to build robust practical solutions to the grounding problem. The Invited Speakers for the Workshop Grounding Sensory Information and Symbolic Knowledge include David Makinson of Kings College London and Bernhard Nebel of Freiburg University, Germany. |

Commonsense Reasoning 2003
Description |
International Symposium on Logical Formalization of Commonsense Reasoning: One of the major long-term goals of artificial intelligence is to endow computers with commonsense reasoning capabilities. Although we know how to design and build systems that excel at certain bounded or mechanical tasks which humans find difficult, such as playing chess, we have little idea how to construct computer systems that do well at commonsense tasks which are easy for humans. Formalizing commonsense reasoning using logic-based approaches will be the focus of the symposium. Logic is a powerful modelling tool. Emphasis will be placed on representation rather than algorithms, and on formal rather than informal methods. |

RoboCup 2002
Description |
RoboCup is an international research and education initiative. Its goal is to foster artificial intelligence and robotics research by providing a standard problem where a wide range of technologies can be examined and integrated. The concept of soccer-playing robots was first introduced in 1993. Following a two-year feasibility study, in August 1995, an announcement was made to introduce the first international conferences and soccer games. In July 1997, the first official conference and game was held in Nagoya, Japan. Followed by Paris, Stockholm, Melbourne and Seattle, the annual events attracted many participants. Following previous conferences and games, the 6th RoboCup will be held in Fukuoka, Japan in cooperation with Busan, Korea in June, 2002. This RoboCup will coincide with the"2002 World Cup Korea/Japan".Today, more than 3,000 researchers from 35 countries and regions are participating in various projects such as international games, conferences, research and educational programs. The main focus of the RoboCup organization is competitive soccer. Games are important opportunities for researchers to exchange technical information. They also serve as a great chance to educate and entertain the public. RoboCupSoccer is divided into the following leagues: Simulation league Small-size robot league (f-180) Middle-size robot league (f-2000) Four-legged robot league Humanoid league |

First International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems AAMAS 2002 (Autonomous Agents 2002)
Description |
Agents (adaptive or intelligent agents and multi-agent systems) are one of the most prominent and attractive technologies in Computer Science at the beginning of the new century. Agent and MAS technologies, methods, and theories are currently contributing to many diverse domains such as information retrieval, user interface design, robotics, electronic commerce, computer mediated collaboration, computer games, education and training, smart environments, ubiquitous computers, social simulation, etc. They are not only a very promising technology, they are emerging as a new way of thinking, a conceptual paradigm for analyzing problems and for designing systems, for dealing with complexity, distribution and interactivity, and perhaps a new perspective on computing and intelligence. Yet to realize this promise further advances are required in agent architectures, languages, theories, and design techniques. |

Semantic Web Working Symposium
Description |
The Semantic Web is a vision: the idea of having data on the Web defined and linked in a way that it can be used by machines not just for display purposes, but for automation, integration and reuse of data across various applications. In order to make this vision a reality for the Web, supporting standards, technologies and policies must be designed to enable machines to make more sense of the Web, with the result of making the Web more useful for humans. Facilities and technologies to put machine-understandable data on the Web are rapidly becoming a high priority for many communities. For the Web to scale, programs must be able to share and process data even when these programs have been designed totally independently. The Web can reach its full potential only if it becomes a place where data can be shared and processed by automated tools as well as by people. |

Nonmonotonic Reasoning, Action and Change @ IJCAI
